When you are applying for a job, it is always better to have a contact referral in your cover letter. To have someone who has a contact in the company always gives you an upper hand over others. Mentioning a mutual acquaintance in your cover letter will grab the hiring manager’s attention and help you get your resume noticed.
Your cover letter is the best place to mention a referral and how you know them. So, if you have any contact referral, be sure to mention them.
Write your cover letter using the standard business like format. Start with your contact information and date followed by the hiring manager’s information. Then write the name and position of the individual you are addressing the letter to with a proper salutation.
You should mention of your contact in the opening paragraph only. Include your contact’s name and information, and your relation to this person in the opening paragraph of the body of the letter. Move on to the second paragraph where you will talk about your relevant skills and accomplishments. Here, you will tell them how you will be a great fit for the team. In the end, convey your thanks for taking taking their time to read this and sign off formally using “Sincerely” or ” Respectfully Yours”.
